How to Appreciate the Revelation of the Triune God
Scripture Reading: Gen. 1:1, 26-28; 1 Cor. 2:10-11; Eph. 1:17-18; John 1:14; 4:24; Rom. 8:3-4; 2 Cor. 4:6; Rev. 21:9-10
I.What God pays attention to is our spirit; it is here that we fellowship with God; it is here that we understand God’s will; and it is here that we receive the revelation of the Holy Spirit—1 Cor. 2:10; Eph. 1:17; 3:5:
A.God has never revealed His will to man’s mind; revelation comes from the Holy Spirit and enters into man’s spirit—1 Cor. 2:10-11, 14-15.
B.Only man’s renewed spirit can receive revelation; natural deficiencies will not hinder one from receiving revelation; and natural strengths will not help one to receive revelation—Rom. 12:2; Eph. 4:23.
C.In our fellowship with God, a spirit of wisdom and revelation is indispensable; therefore, the apostle here prays for the Ephesian believers who have already been regenerated, that they would receive a spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that they may truly know God in their intuition—Eph. 1:17.
D.Only those who have received God’s revelation in their spirit can truly know Him; other words are merely superficial, imaginary, shallow, and therefore, false—1 Cor. 2:10; Eph. 1:17; 3:5.
II.Light and revelation are linked; to be enlightened is to receive revelation; God’s revelation is given to us by God’s light; God’s revelation is the effect of that light upon us—Acts 26:16, 18-19; 22:5-8:
A.Illumination is the work of God; God’s light shining in my spirit is a revelation—Eph. 1:17-18.
B.Revelation is the Holy Spirit giving us light, allowing us to see; when God shines, man has revelation, and after man receives revelation, knowledge remains with man—vv. 14-15.
C.We need God to give us light to see our own true condition as God sees it; this is revelation; this light of revelation kills our outer man; in this way, our outer man is separated from our inner man—Heb. 4:12.
D.The word of God is not scarce, the light of God is not diminished, and the revelation of God is not diminished; the problem today is that God has not gained man, God cannot break through from us, and the light cannot shine forth from us—2 Cor. 4:6; Eph. 5:14.
E.The Lord Jesus is the light; when we draw near to the Lord, we will see the light; the more you draw near to the Lord, the more you can receive God’s light—John 8:12; 3:21.
III.We need to exercise our spirit to contact the Lord through pray-reading and thereby receive the divine revelation—John 4:24; Eph. 6:17-18:
A.We need to exercise our spirit to contact the Lord through pray-reading, not by our natural understanding, to receive the divine revelation—vv. 17-18:
1. If we do not exercise our spirit, the Bible is merely letters and facts, and it cannot become our revelation—2 Cor. 3:6.
2. We must exercise our spirit to contact the Lord because the Lord Himself is the word; the word is God, and this word is the breath of God, which is The Spirit—John 1:1; 2 Tim. 3:16; Eph. 6:17.
B.We receive the divine revelation by the spirit of wisdom and revelation mentioned in Ephesians 1:17; the spirit here is the mingled spirit, that is, the Spirit of God mingled with the human spirit—v. 17.
C.To receive revelation from the Holy Word, we also need to contact the Lord through much prayer; the more we pray the Lord’s word, the more light we will have; through prayer, we touch the word, the Spirit of God, and our spirit—6:17.
IV.For one to receive God’s revelation, one must also be hungry and thirsty for it in order to receive it—Luke 1:53; Psa. 81:10:
A.Only a hungry heart can receive God’s revelation; a hungry and thirsty heart is a desperate heart; if we are desperate, once God’s revelation comes, we can immediately receive it, and we can immediately see—Acts 13:2-3.
B.On God’s side, revelation is given willingly; but on man’s side, we must have a hungry, thirsty, and desperate heart; if we have such an attitude, we can receive revelation in every meeting and every time we read the Scripture—Luke 1:53.
C.If we do not open our hearts before God, we will never receive it; we must humble ourselves before the Lord and pray, “Oh, Lord, forgive me, break me! Open my heart”—Psa. 81:10.
V.The more one is like a babe, the more willing one is to receive help before the Lord, and the more one’s spirit is open to God, the more such a person can receive revelation—Matt. 11:25:
A.The more one considers oneself wise and prudent, the more proud and self-reliant one is, the more God closes Himself to him; God gives them a spirit of stupor, that is, He closes their hearts so that they cannot receive revelation—Rom. 11:8.
B.To be a babe means to seek, to be humble, to be simple, and to be gentle before God; when a person is soft and gentle, the Lord can easily give him light and revelation—James 4:6.
C.At the same time, our spirit needs to be disciplined, restrained, and dealt with by the Lord to the point where it is often open to Him and can often receive revelation—Acts 22:5-8.
VI.Revelation comes from discipline; when we receive the discipline of The Spirit, The Spirit has a way to reveal to us the reality in Christ and bring us into these realities—2 Cor. 12:7-9:
A.The enlightening of revelation is received under the government of the Holy Spirit; whoever has little of the Holy Spirit’s government upon him will also have few times when his spirit is enlightened—2 Cor. 11:23-28.
B.Every dealing is an opportunity to receive revelation; when you are dealt with by God, you may also receive a revelation from God, and you can receive a new revelation—2 Cor. 12:7-9.
C.Without government, there is no revelation; revelation is received when we are under government—Acts 22:5-8.
VII.The light of God is in the Holy of Holies; today’s Holy of Holies is the church; we want people to be manifested, to see the light, and to receive revelation as soon as they come to the church—Psa. 73:16-17:
A.The light is in the church, not in the individual; individual pursuit often falls into darkness; one cannot receive light through analysis or prayer, nor can one find God by looking within oneself—vv. 16-17.
B.Light comes from the ministry of the word, and the ministry of the word is exercised in the church; where there is the word in the church, there is light; and all can receive light from the church—119:130.
C.To see the light of God, one must come to the church; in the meetings of the church, among the brothers and sisters, the light of God often shines particularly bright—Rev. 1:20; Psa. 73:16-17; 1 Cor. 14:24-25.
VIII.If Christ had not come to the earth, we would not have believed in Him; He came in the flesh and is presented to us in the Bible; the more we know Christ from the Bible, the more we will naturally appreciate and love Him, and thus believe in Him more; therefore, our faith is Christ Himself dispensed into us through the word of the Bible, becoming our appreciation and treasuring of Him—John 1:14; Gal. 2:16:
A.The more we read the Bible and hear the word concerning Christ in it, the more an appreciation for Him and His preciousness is produced in us; the more we appreciate and value Christ, the more faith we have—Gal. 2:16.
B.Love is related to our appreciation of Christ; without such appreciation, faith cannot operate; when we have the hearing of faith, this hearing of faith arouses our loving appreciation, and this appreciation causes faith to operate—Gal. 5:6.
C.Our appreciation of the Lord and our apprehension of Him vary in degree; if we are full of the spirit, we will receive much light and revelation, and our appreciation of the Lord will be much greater; light will release us and expand our appreciation of the Lord—Matt. 11:27.
IX.We need to see visions through the divine revelation—Eph. 1:17-18a; Acts 26:16-19:
A.We must first have revelation; then that revelation, under the illumination of the divine light, becomes a vision—Eph. 1:18a; 1 Sam. 3:1.
B.We need to contact the Lord by reviewing the divine revelation in our spirit; then the light will shine and bring us the vision; otherwise, we will at most have revelation without vision—Acts 9:1-9.
C.We need the capacity to see visions, which is our eyesight; we need revelation plus light, plus eyesight; light is from God; eyesight is in us; revelation plus the divine light and our eyesight brings us visions—Eph. 1:18a; 3:3.
D.The book of Acts shows us that the divine vision is mainly concerning God’s move; the vision we receive from the Lord will cause us to have a move; our move is according to the vision we have seen—Acts 26:16-19; 16:9-10.
