Noah, Daniel, and Job

Scripture reading: Gen. 6:8-9; 14:14, 20; Dan. 1:8; 6:10; Job 1:1, 8; 2:3; Ezek. 14:14, 20

I.Noah, Daniel, and Job are patterns revealing how we can live a victorious life on the line of life to accomplish God’s economy—Ezek. 14:14, 20:

A.Noah found grace in the eyes of God, inheriting the spiritual blessings of his forefathers and walking the way of God’s redeeming life, including the way of Adam’s salvation, the way of Abel’s offering, the way of Enosh’s calling, and the way of Enoch’s walking with God—Gen. 6:8:

1. Through faith Noah became a man who was considered righteous by God, and he was a perfect man in his generation, who walked with God—Gen. 6:9.

2. When man’s corruption on the earth had reached its peak, God still found Noah, a man who walked His way of life, to cooperate and work together with Him to carry out the salvation He practiced for those who walk His redeeming way of life—Gen. 6:8-9.

B.Daniel was a person who lived a victorious life in captivity; he purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the king’s choice food and with the wine which the king drank—Dan. 1:8:

1. Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the king’s choice food and with the wine which the king drank; this signifies that he rejected worldly enjoyment and pleasure—Dan. 1:8.

2. Three times a day Daniel kneeled on his knees before his God and prayed and gave thanks, as he had done previously—Dan. 6:10.

C.Job was a man who was perfect and upright, one who feared God and shunned evil—Job 1:1:

1. Job was complete in his being perfect and upright, perfect in his fearing God, and perfect in his shunning of evil—Job 1:1.

2. Jehovah said to Satan that there was no one on earth like Job, perfect and upright, fearing God and shunning evil—Job 1:8; 2:3.

II.Noah’s life was a life that changed the age, and the work that Noah did was a work that changed the age—Gen. 6:13-14:

A.Noah, according to God’s command and revelation, built an ark for God; this shows that for God to have such a work on earth according to His economy, He must gain people who walk and live with Him to cooperate, coordinate, and work together with Him on earth—Gen. 6:13-14.

B.On God’s way of life, Noah was also a typical person, representing all who work and live with God, who are found by God to work together with Him on earth, through whom God could practice the salvation that accomplished His economy—Gen. 6:14.

C.The ark that God revealed for Noah to build is a type of Christ; this also has a spiritual significance, showing that, in principle, all that is done by those who walk, live, and work with God must be the building of Christ—Gen. 6:14.

III.Daniel lived a life that was according to God’s economy and was absolutely for God’s interest and testimony—Dan. 1:8, 6:10:

A.Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the king’s choice food and with the wine which the king drank; this indicates that he was absolutely for God and was not defiled by the world—Dan. 1:8.

B.Three times a day Daniel kneeled on his knees before his God and prayed and gave thanks, as he had done previously; this shows that he lived a life that was absolutely centered on God—Dan. 6:10.

C.In his captivity Daniel maintained his faithfulness to God and upheld God’s testimony on earth—Dan. 6:10.

IV.Job’s life reveals a man who lived a life of fearing God under His sovereign authority—Job 1:1, 8:

A.Job was a man who was perfect and upright, one who feared God and shunned evil; this shows that he lived a life that was acceptable before God—Job 1:1.

B.In his hardship Job still held fast his integrity and did not sin with his lips; this showed that his fear of God was real—Job 1:22; 2:10.

C.Job’s experience reveals God’s transforming work in His chosen people, enabling them to know God in a deeper way in life—Job 42:5-6.

V.The lives of these three men were all lives that turned the age according to the vision of the age—Gen. 6:13-14; Dan. 1:8; Job 1:1:

A.By faith Noah, being divinely warned concerning things not yet seen, was moved by reverence and prepared an ark for the saving of his household—Heb. 11:7.

B.Daniel and his companions, because of their faith in and faithfulness to God, bore a testimony for God in the court of Babylon—Dan. 1:8-16.

C.Job’s faith in and fear of God in his hardship became a pattern and an encouragement to the saints throughout the ages—Job 1:21; 2:10.

VI.We need to be like Noah, Daniel, and Job, living a victorious life to turn the age—Phil. 1:19-21:

A.We need to walk with God in this crooked and perverted generation, like Noah, to build the ark for God—Phil. 2:15.

B.We need to be like Daniel, who, while in the system of the world, was still absolutely for God and undefiled—Dan. 1:8.

C.We need to be like Job, fearing God, shunning evil, and holding fast our integrity in all kinds of circumstances—Job 1:1; 2:3.
